There are several factors of which the treatment for prostate cancer depends on; it is very complex. The stage and grade of the cancer matters a lot along with the sufferer’s age and overall health plus the treatment type he or she prefers.

New cancer treatments for prostate cancer

Men who count as old and have a tumor that is slowly growing or the life expectancy is low; the treatment might be only to wait and watch; such people should be kept comfortable at all times. Apart from this prostate cancer can be treatment through three different treatment types; hormone manipulation, radiation therapy, and surgery.

If the sufferer chooses to go for surgery; this will include many prostatectomy types. For people who are in the early stage of this cancer can easily get cured just by having a prostatectomy. There are four main types of prostatectomy;

Firstly, the radical prostatectomy will have the removal of bladder neck’s some portion, seminal vesicles, prostatic capsule, and prostate. Several men may end up facing erectile dysfunction and various degrees of urinary incontinence at this point. Secondly, the retropubic prostatectomy, this is usually performed since it can pretty much control the bleeding, visualization of bladder neck and the prostate bed, and the access to the pelvic lymph nodes. Thirdly, the perineal prostatectomy, this is usually preferred for older males or males who can be a big risk for surgery.

Less bleeding and less time is what this approach is all about. Lastly, the suprapubic prostatectomy can also be used if there are any problems expected to happen with the bladder. However, it is not used in any other cases.

Radiation therapy steps in if the cancer is moved on to the third stage. This is the stage when the cancer is no more just a prostatic capsule. The option for surgery at this point is controversial I should say since there can be hidden lymph node metastasis and relapse too. At this point, a prostatectomy can also be used but just for the relief of urinary obstruction. Radiation therapy is usually chosen as the primary treatment to cure prostate cancer.

Lastly, hormonal therapy; also known as androgen depravation therapy is needed if the cancer is at an advanced stage. Several cells are growing in the tumor depending on the androgen therefore when androgen is stopped they either die or stop growing.

The cure to prostate cancer can only be made easily possible when it is detected early and treated properly.
